Acting Up! is focused on developing young actors and actresses in a safe, secure environment. We feel that great acting comes from one’s inner self and our goal is to nurture it and help it grow. All of our classes focus on the proven Sanford Meisner Technique. Our classes our divided up primarily into classes of similar ages, however exceptions are made to accomodate schedules and each actors ability. Because children's perceptions and abilities change as they grow, we utilize age appropriate games and materials within each class level. We offer classes in traditional drama, improvisational theater, and movie making. Other areas include memorization, theater terminology, voice projection, and audition preparation, all with a special emphasis on realistic acting. Our classes foster positive self-development, building confidence, and the skills necessary to help each actor develop to his or her fulles potential. In addition, we emphasize teamwork and self-discipline as these are the keys to not only succeeding in acting, but succeeding in life.
Each spring, Acting Up! students take part in our annual production performed in our own theater. Each student is encouraged, but not required to participate. All students participating are given speaking lines, since we feel that this is one of the crucial elements in developing strong actors and actresses. In the past our productions have included, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Little Mermaid, Toy Story, and The Twilight Zone.
